Well Folks... Looks like we did it... or at least maybe helped things along! This was posted by Mr. Liam Clancy himself on his message board, November 29, 2008:
“The word from Columbia/Legacy is that a ‘Deluxe Legacy Edition of the 1963 Carnegie Hall Show’ will be released as a two CD set for March 2009. The 1962 show will be released only online (iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody etc...). Additionally we plan to put online for sale 2 more early 60s recordings 'Hearty & Hellish' and 'A Spontaneous Performance!' - both requested and sought after
You see folks? You talk - someone listens.
Thank you all,
Liam”
Huge and wonderful news for all the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem fans out there. We four Stoutmen are proud to count ourselves among them!
The old (now thankfully outdated) page, originally posted in September, 2005, appears below:
We have teamed-up with friends across the globe in urging Sony Music to reissue on CD, many of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem recordings that presently exist only on vinyl or have never been heard before. There is a wealth of classic material here and it would be very sad if new generations were unable to experience the magic and energy of these recordings.
We need your help! The current plan calls for a coordinated effort among Clancy fans to request from Sony Music the 1961 album entitled, “A SPONTANEOUS PERFORMANCE RECORDING!” Once this recording is “set free” by Sony, efforts will be redirected toward another title. SPONTANEOUS PERFORMANCE is a classic recording that was nominated for a Grammy Award and features a guest appearance by Pete Seeger. In addition to the original tracks on the record, there are tracks that have never been released that Sony could include on the reissued CD.
